The famous film and theater director Andrey Konchalovsky, son of the cult Soviet poet and author of the anthem of the USSR and Russia Sergey Mikhalkov and half-brother of Oscar winner Nikita Mikhalkov, is preparing Dostoyevsky's novel "Crime and Punishment" as a musical for the next season.
The general producer of the Smeljanski Musical Theater does not hesitate to talk about the difficult conditions in which they work
The music for "Crime and Punishment" was written by Eduard Artemeyev and will be performed at the beginning of autumn at the Moscow Musical Theater, founded by Mihail Shvidkoi and David Smelyansky.
In this way, the first Russian repertory theater of contemporary Russian musicals will appear in Moscow.
The Moscow Musical Theater is preparing to go on its first visit this summer - to Novosibirsk.
The general producer of the Smeljanski Musical Theater does not shy away from talking about the difficult conditions in which they work:
"The plays are shown in a part that is very far from the theater area, but despite all the difficulties, the theater managed to attract the audience during this first season, so the spectators have already learned the way and are 'teaching' others, thus becoming voluntary guides to us ”, he said.
One of the tasks in the new season will be the reconstruction of the nearby park in order to hold jazz and rock concerts in it again, so that this part of the city will once again become one of the centers of musical creativity in the capital. For any new theater to stand on its feet, it takes at least five years," claims Smeljanski, adding: "In the year behind us, it became clear to everyone that this theater will live."
