Famous artist Marina Abramović announced a new artistic project with which she will step into the field of science.
The new work is inspired by the experience that Abramović experienced during the retrospective and marathon performance "The Artist is Present" in 2010 at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), reports the Seecult portal.
Abramović demonstrated the concept of the project, which combines art and neuroscience, these days in an interview with WNYC radio in New York, participating in an experiment with host Brian Lerer.
As reported by B92, both had wireless sensors attached to their heads that recorded their brain waves, and they could then be compared by computer.
According to Abramović, the days she spent at MoMA during the three-month performance "The Artist is Present" changed her life.
The performance involved the artist sitting opposite a person from the audience and looking at each other without saying a word, which lasted from a few seconds to several hours. In three months, Marina Abramović met in this way with more than 1.500 people of different generations, nationalities, professions...
"Something happened in those moments of looking at people who are complete strangers. Emotions came out. It was so moving that many people cried... I can't explain why. That's why I'm interested in seeing what really happens to the brain. That will be my step into science. It's not something that's just hocus-pocus, there must be something that can be explained scientifically. Because, what do we even know about the brain?", said Abramović.
