Many people, especially Christians, around the world are wondering why the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, is stepping down from that position after only 8 years since enthronement. It is, by the way, only the second such case in the entire history of the Catholic Church.
It was immediately after his arrival in the capital of the famous Romans that Malachi experienced a vision of all future popes
Before him, only Pope Celestine V stepped down from that position in 1294, although not of his own free will. The case of Pope Benedict XVI is most often linked by the media primarily to his poor health, but also to various scandals that have taken place within the church in recent years.
Expected or not, but as far as I know, no one mentions an ancient prophecy that, some believe, predicts just that. Namely, who is a little more familiar with the prophecy of St. Malachi, an Irish archbishop from the 12th century, will understand what he is talking about. And those who hold on to him will understand that this act of Pope Benedict XVI, at least according to this prophecy, is not a completely harmless event in the global sense.
And why and who was St. Malachi?
St. Malachi was an archbishop, but he was also, as Christians believe, a great pious person and as such he received the blessing of prophecy from the Lord in order to give the last generation of people on earth a warning of what is coming.
Pope Clement XIII is recorded by Malachi as Rosa Umbriae (Rose of Umbria), probably because Pope Clement XIII used a rose on his coat of arms
In the biography of this man of God, it is not mentioned that he was a prophet, probably because his prophecy was only found in 1590, although St. Malachi wrote in 1139 when he came to Rome as an archbishop at the invitation of Pope Celestine II.
Right after his arrival in the capital of the famous Romans, Malachi experienced a vision of all future popes, from that time until the end. He wrote down their names in the form of coded phrases, the interpretation of which relies on the name of the pope's birthplace, the papal coat of arms or some significant event from his pontificate.
For example, the first phrase, Ex castro Tiberis, which means: from the castle on the Tiber, corresponds to the birthplace of Pope Celestine II whom Malachi saw in his vision as the first of the 112 popes he believed to be from that time and all the way to Pošjetek (Kraj).
Pope Clement XIII is recorded by Malachi as Rosa Umbriae (Rose of Umbria), probably because Pope Clement XIII used a rose on his coat of arms that was abundant in Umbria, the Italian region where he was born. Pope Paul VI is referred to as Flos florum (flower of flowers) because his coat of arms featured three lilies.
Pope John Paul I is marked with the phrase De medietate Lunae which means: (he who is) of the crescent moon. It is interesting that this pope was elected only one day after the last quarter of the month and he only ruled for one month.
By the name, one could say that Pope Benedict XVI will be succeeded by a pope of Italian nationality, that he will be firm and steadfast "like a rock".
Pope John Paul II in this prophecy was recorded with the phrase: De labore Solis, which in translation would mean: the one who, from the birth of the Sun, and it is known that this Pope was born on the day of a total eclipse of the Sun. Pope Benedict XVI is marked with the phrase: Gloria Olivae, which means: the glory of the olive, and the olive branch is the symbol of the Benedictine order.
According to Malachi's prophecy, after Pope Benedict XVI, the last pope marked by the phrase: In persecutione extrema SRE sedebit Petrus Romanus, qui pascet oues in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis ciuitas septicollis diruetur, i Iudex tremêdus iudicabit populum suum should come to the throne of the Catholic Church. Finis.
The translation of this slightly longer phrase would read: "In the midst of great persecution, Peter the Roman will sit on the throne of the Holy Roman Church, who will feed his flock during many sufferings, after which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible Judge will judge all peoples." End."
So, here it is said that after Pope Benedict XVI, the last Pope Peter the Roman will come to the head of the Catholic Church. By the name, one could say that Pope Benedict XVI will be succeeded by a pope of Italian nationality, that he will be firm and steadfast "like a rock" (petrosa means stone), but, according to Malachi, it will only be a prelude to great suffering... With this intonation Malachi's prophecy ties in with many other end-of-the-world prophecies.
But whether you believe in ancient prophecies or not, you should not doubt that very soon we will be reading (and watching) some kind of "historical thriller" based on this episode.
