Iran's Olympic Committee announced today that it will help major countries fight the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to drop wrestling from the 2020 Games.
"It is very serious. We will help the big countries and we will block the decision to remove wrestling from the 2020 Games," said the president of the Iranian Olympic Committee, Muhammad Alijabadi, IRNA reported.
Iran won three gold medals in wrestling at the London Olympics last year.
Aliabadi, a close friend of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, did not specify which countries were involved.
The newspaper Etemad stated that Iran, the USA and Russia form an "axis" that will oppose the decision of the "allies" to remove wrestling from the Olympic program.
On Tuesday, the IOC dropped wrestling from the Olympic program for the 2020 Games.
