"The Ministry of Culture will appoint the commissioner of Montenegrin representation at the Venice Biennale by the end of January of the current year, which is in accordance with our agreement with the Directorate of the Biennale, and after harmonizing all annual program activities, including this important international manifestation, with this year's budget.

In this context, a space has already been secured in Venice for the exhibition, which is a prerequisite for participation, while information about the artists and the exhibition will be known by mid-March, as it is foreseen in the proposals of the Biennale", according to the answer of Dragica Milić, Assistant Minister of Culture Montenegro.

Virtual museum

The commissioner of Serbia's performance at the 55th Biennale of Contemporary Art in Venice is Maja Ćirić, art historian, and the members of the Expert Council are Dr. Dejan Sretenović, art historian, MA Stevan Vuković, art theorist, Darko Radosavljević, art historian, MA Milica Pekić, art historian and Nikola Šindik, multimedia artist.

This year's president of the 55th Biennale in Venice, Paolo Barata, announced that there will be eight countries that will be presented for the first time at this year's edition, namely the Bahamas, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Kosovo, Kuwait, the Maldives, Ivory Coast and Nigeria and Prague. Representatives of the Holy See will also participate in the Biennale. The international exhibition will be held in Arsenal and Giardino, as well as in numerous city squares.

"The Biennale again uses the dual form defined in 1998: a large international exhibition set up by curators and national exhibitions," Barata said, adding that the national pavilions are a very important segment of the event.

At the last 54th Biennale in 2011, Montenegro was represented by Marina Abramović with the project of artistic transformation of Obod MACCO Cetinje "Obod i bistre vode", as well as the works of Ilija Šoškić and Natalija Vujošević. The commissioner curators were Svetlana Racanović and Petar Ćuković.
