Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky, one of the greatest in the history of world literature, led millions of readers through the sufferings of the human soul, exposed poverty, brought both characters and readers to the brink of physical and mental existence.
Most of his novels were set in the gloomy spaces of the metropolitan underground
Most often with short sentences in which one does not find the opulence of Tolstoy, with whom he was most often compared or presented as the most significant representative of realism, Dostoevsky brought his unhappy life, his own difficult psychological construction into his works and was undoubtedly an excellent connoisseur of human nature.
"I have always considered the vocation of a writer to be the noblest, most useful vocation. I have the conviction that only by following that path could I really be useful, so maybe I would pay some attention to myself, gain a good name again, and at least provide for my existence to some extent; because I have nothing except, perhaps, a little literary ability" - he writes in one of his letters from Siberia.
"In order to act sensibly - it is not enough to have just sensibility"
Most of his novels were set in the gloomy spaces of the metropolitan underworld, centered around exciting events inherited from trivial novels and black chronicles. The characters from his works are generally lower than ordinary people, humiliated, insulted, angry, frightened, punished, primitive or prone to ecstasies in which they transcend the human and become sublime human beings.
His rich oeuvre consists of novels. "Poor people", "Evil souls", "Notes from the underground", "Humiliation and insult", "Crime and punishment", "Idiot", "The Brothers Karamazov".
