Actress Julija Milačić portrays one of the main characters in the play "Hamlet in the village of Mrduša Donja" by Ivo Brešan, directed by Luka Kortina, which is being performed tonight on the Great Stage of the Montenegrin National Theatre.

The play was co-produced by the Kotor Art International Festival and the Montenegrin National Theater, and in addition to Milačić, Simo Trebješanin, Ana Vujošević, Stevan Radusinović, Dušan Kovačević, Ana Vučković and Momo Pićurić also play in the same play.

Given that she was not part of the project "Hamlet Performance in the Village of Mrduša Donja" from the beginning, Milačić reveals how she coped and what the audience's reactions were after the end of the play.

"The play of Hamlet in the village of Mrduša Donja" was written in the mid-60s of the last century. How relevant is the text even today?

As then, so today. Hypocrisy, betrayal, submission, ignorance, dullness... They are equally "attractive" both in the 60s and in 2018. The Balkans is a deep black pit that can only get deeper, nothing more. Unfortunately for all of us.

Did you immediately get to play Anđa in the first division of roles and what was it like to work on the play in general?

I am the "jump" in this play. And jumps are stressful above all. Actors in most cases do not like to go through jumps. Unfortunately, one cannot go through the process of creating a role, working with the director and colleagues. The creation is not yours, you are wearing someone else's clothes. On the other hand, jumps can be taken as a good exercise, working on yourself, adjusting and finally acting quickly. Fortunately, I jump in often, so the amount of stress has decreased. Considering the wonderful colleagues from the ensemble of the Montenegrin National Theater, Anđe is a job well done on my part.

Through humor in the play, poltroons and hypocrites are exposed to criticism and ridicule. What are the reactions of the audience during and after the performance? Does she just make them laugh or imagine them a little?

Laughter is frequent and constant from play to play. I hope they wonder. Well, it's kind of strange to leave a show like this as light entertainment. However, times are strange, "pink" is palpable all around us both through TV boxes and in front of our eyes. Well, it would not be strange for me to go to the theater on a whim "to be cultured", "to receive culture"... And what happened on stage is the least important.

Brešan's "Hamlet in the village of Mrduša Donja" is one of the most important literary texts of the 20th century and was performed in many theaters. How much more responsible was it to play in this play because of that?

Well, for God's sake, it's lucky when quality texts are made, not to mention classics. Happiness is when you get a role in such a project. Actors who are professionals (otherwise it is difficult to practice this art) have a responsibility towards each role, project...

The movie "The Hamlet Performance in Donja Mrduša" was also filmed, and Anđa is played by Milena Dravić. Did you watch the movie while preparing for this play?

No, I think it's wrong to have role models during role preparation. It is your creation and must not resemble anything seen before.
