Writer Dan Slott, who has written most of Spider-Man's adventures in the last 100 issues of Marvel Entertainment, says that the culmination of the story is going in a completely different direction than what Steve Ditko and Stan Lee had in mind back in 1962.

“This is going to be an epic twist,” says Slott. "I wrote more than 70 issues of the comic. You have to shake things up every now and then... One of the reasons Spider-Man is one of the most enduring superheroes is that he can always be new and different,” he says.

The pages of the 700th issue, illustrated by Umberto Ramos and Victor Olazaba, appeared yesterday, and they're not just "broken" - they're completely thrown out of their sockets.

Parker's mind is trapped in the decaying body of his nemesis Doctor Octopus aka Otto Octavius.

So where is Dr. Ok? In Parker's superpowered shell where he learns what it's like to live as a brilliant researcher and a member of the Fantastic Four.

However, Octavius ​​wins and Parker, for the time being, disappears forever—though not before one last act of heroism.

Slott says that Parker, whose memories were taken over by Octavius, shows the villain what it means to be a hero.

“His crime days are gone, but he's still Doctor Octopus and he's got that personality. He won't just try to be and become Spider-Man; he's going to try to be the best Spider-Man of all time,” says Slott.

This kind of plot, in fact, according to Walker, is a fitting end for the "old" Spider-Man and the beginning of a new one - "Superior Spider-Man" early next year.
