Scientists believe there is genetic evidence to explain why fat people are often happier than their thin friends. They found that the FTO gene, which contributes the most to obesity, was associated with an eight percent reduction in the risk of depression.
Canadian researchers actually looked into the link between obesity and depression. But when they examined the genetic and psychiatric status of the study participants, they found that those with the obesity gene showed significantly fewer signs of depression.
The study analyzed 17200 DNA samples from participants from 21 countries.
