Boris Liješević's performance at the Montenegrin Theater Biennial

The play "On the Occasion of the Seagull", an author's project by Boris Liješević, will be performed on Wednesday, October 10 at 20 pm in the Montenegrin National Theatre, as part of the Montenegrin Theater Biennial.

The play, which was produced by the Youth Theater from Novi Sad, will be performed as part of Selection Plus. The play, inspired by AP Chekhov's drama "The Seagull", was directed by Boris Liješević, the composer of the music is Aleksandar Kostić, the playwright is Branko Dimitrijević, the assistant directors are Dušan Mamula, Mia Knežević and Momčilo Miljković.

The play features: Dejan Šarković, Dragan Zorić, Ervin Hadžimurtezić, Ivan Đurić, Jelica Gligorin, Marija Mitrović, Neda Danilović, Saša Latinović, Saša Stojković, Slavica Vučetić, Slobodan Ninković, Vera Hrćan Ostojić and Zoran Andrejin.

A theater within a theater

Ana Tasić, selector of Selekcija Plus, wrote about the play that "Because of the Seagull" is documentary, and it is realized as a "theatre within a theater", witty, honest, self-examining, cathartic.

"Starting from the idea of ​​performing Chekhov's play The Seagull, in Liješević's play the actors who do not speak on behalf of fictional characters but on their own behalf, take a different path, the path of non-fiction. Instead of Chekhov, they play their own real plays.

The audience follows touching confessions about the expectations they had in the acting profession and the disappointments that came instead of their fulfillment. Reality here is shown to be more dramatic than fictional drama, it has swallowed up fiction, the real lives of the actors are more dramatic and powerful than the dramatic legacy," she wrote.

A new vision of classical works

Playwright Branko Dimitrijević wrote that Liješević took this drama as an occasion to, among other things, deal with acting aspirations and frustrations.

After the play, a round table will be organized in the press room of the Montenegrin National Theater

"So, in addition to acting parts from Chekhov's work, the actors of the Youth Theater in Novi Sad also talk about their personal experiences and emotions. The result is a new vision, revival and actualization of classic works.

And I agreed to work on this project only to check whether it is true that most of us, theater workers, start out as Trepljev and end our career as Trigorin. I have come to certain conclusions, but I will keep them to myself," writes Dimitrijević.

After the play, a media and criticism round table will be organized in the press room of the Montenegrin National Theater.
