London - The three hour drive from Manchester to London was not a problem. Stefan Savić came to the Olympic Village just to spend the day socializing with Montenegrin athletes.
"I'm pleased to be here, I took some free time to come, and I'm sorry I couldn't do it earlier. We arrived from Germany only on Sunday evening, previously we were in Malaysia and China, but I followed everything on the Internet our athletes work in London. I hope that the water polo and handball players will take another step and enter the fight for a medal," said Savić, who spent most of his time in the company of fellow citizen Danijelo Furtula.
The young man from Mojkov became part of the history of Manchester City, because he was part of the team that won the first title after 44 years.
On the last day of the Olympic Games, the "citizens" start the new season - in the Community Shield, the rival is Chelsea, and the match will be played at "Villa Park" in Birmingham.
It will be the first time since 1973 that the English Super Cup will not be played at "Wembley" or the "Millennium" stadium in Cardiff, which will host the final a day or two earlier, i.e. bronze medal match at the OI.
"Right from the start, a great game. Chelsea is stronger compared to last season, it will be difficult, but also spectacular in Birmingham".
For the 21-year-old defender, a period of adjustment has passed, and already in his debut season he has made over 20 appearances. In the last test match against Wolfsburg, Roberto Mancini kept him in the game for the whole 90 minutes.
"Mancini believes in me, that's obvious. I did the preparations very well, I'm not interested in what is written about the interest of some clubs. It's simple - I'm good at City and the club is happy. I think it will be even better next season, because I am, however, more experienced by the year, which is very important in England".
City's ambitions are the same as last season - they are attacking trophies, but now it will be much more difficult...
"Last season we were "noisy neighbors", as Alex Ferguson called us, and now we are champions and everyone will want to beat us. However, we have an experienced and very high-quality team, full of class in all positions, so we will fight and to defend the title, but also to improve our impression in the Champions League. This is a stain on us from last season, although the goal was to win the title, we were disappointed after being eliminated after the first stage. Now we want to make up for it," says Savić.
A day after the match with Chelsea, the former football player of Brskov, BSK and Partizan goes to Montenegro for short-term preparations for the match that the "brave falcons" will play against Latvia in Podgorica.
"Considering that this is a general check before the World Cup qualifiers, it would be good to win. It is much more important to be right at the start, against Poland. If we get three points then, we would be in a great position, because by the end of the year we play with San Marino twice. We watched the Poles at the Euros, they are a good team, solid, but we can play against them. There is no reason to fear, it is enough to respect them," concluded Savić.
