The event of this year's Art Program of the Grad Theater is certainly the exhibition of Predrag Koraksić Koraks - the famous Belgrade caricaturist, the sharpest, most provocative, most accurate and objective critic and "commentator" of Serbian and world political and social everyday life, winner of the highest awards (among which is the Order of "Knight of Honor" , with which he was awarded by the government of France), presented himself with about ninety caricatures, which "cover" the period from October last year, until today.
The exhibition of Koraks' works under the metaphorical title "In the absence of evidence" was opened by the actor Vojislav Brajović in the presence of numerous admirers of his work.
Koraks suffered the most pressure from the authorities during the Milošević regime, when his "head was in a bag", as he says, but just as a man has to breathe, so he had to draw his caricatures then, which saved his conscience.
"Ziast, I believed that there would be some positive changes, but when Đinđić was murdered, it became clear that it was impossible, and I was especially struck when Boris Tadić made that reconciliation with the socialists, which I absolutely did not expect, and that's why I the most and "hit" all the time they were in power. Let's say, now most of my cartoons are Ivica Dacic, he is on stage, and many have been forgotten or have "changed their clothes". I have a huge collection of photos and now I see that they are no longer needed, because those characters have either sunk in some way, or have been lost from sight. But there are many new Miloševićs, even though the situation is different".
Opening the exhibition, Brajović said that there are philosophers who write philosophical treatises, philosophers who express themselves through poetry and painting, and there is also that special kind of brave philosopher like Predrag Koraksić, who expresses himself through caricature.
"The title of this year's festival is "This is funny to you, isn't it?!", and Njegoš begins his most philosophical part in "Gorski vijenc" by saying "The characteristics of our country are funny..." But tonight I will say something else - "No one is happy, and no one is enough, no one is calm, and no one is at peace, everyone fights with each other, a monkey looks at himself in the mirror!" This is something that corresponds to a philosophy of Predrag Koraksić, he said.
Predrag Koraksić said that our rulers managed to stop time - even though in science you can count people who tried or succeeded in a movie, or someone, for example, like Einstein.
"Our rulers are, therefore, phenomena in this regard, they have brought us back twenty years in advance, which no scientist has managed to do so far. Well, that is my topic that I deal with every day, and it is inexhaustible, because every day there is so much nonsense, and stupidity is indestructible," he said
They come to power to help themselves
What is common and identical to every government, as Koraks told "Vijesta", is that it has a tendency to loot - everything comes down to money, those who get hold of power have only that in mind.
"It is a very problematic question why a person wants to come to power in the first place - what is the urge, what is the reason. And the reason is never to improve something and to help the people, but to help oneself. And this need to the government is initially of a psychiatric nature, and this is the paradox that follows not only the rulers in Serbia but everywhere, in the end it is revealed. When time passes, or when they are replaced and others come, then they attack the first ones, those who that it's a cycle that keeps repeating itself".
