Furtula met the B Olympic standard

Montenegrin athlete Danijel Furtula met the B norm for the Olympic Games in London, in the discus throw.

He threw the discus 63,79 meters at the throwers' meeting in Sremska Mitrovica.

Furtula fouled in the first and second series, in the third he threw the discus 62,50, in the fourth 63,36 and in the fifth series 63,79 meters.

In Sremska Mitrovica, he broke the state discus record three times.

"After carrying out the regular procedure at the World Athletics Federation and receiving the official record and report of the delegates from the competition, in the next 15 days, official confirmation of the norm is expected," the Athletics Federation of Montenegro announced.

Furtula is the second Montenegrin athlete to meet the Olympic standard, after marathon runner Slađana Perunović.

"I fulfilled my big dream and goal to compete at the Olympic Games in London. I am especially happy for my club, Tara from Mojkovac, where I started my athletic career and of which I am a member. I hope that I will continue to worthily represent Montenegrin athletics at the international stage in the coming period," said Furtula.

His coach Danilo Krtinić said that meeting the Olympic standard was the plan at the beginning of this competitive season. He pointed out that Furtula is ready to win the A Olympic standard and record a result of about 65 meters.

"Hard work and many months of preparation abroad have yielded results. On Tuesday, we have a big international athletics meeting in Zagreb, where the world's three best discus throwers will participate, and a day later the international athletics meeting in Zenica. After these competitions, we are going abroad, where we want to prepare as well as possible for the 21st European Championship, which is scheduled from June 27 to July 1 in Helisnki," said Krtinić.

Furtula is the European junior vice-champion from Tallinn and the winner of this year's winter thrower's cup of Europe in the junior senior competition.
