Simple physical activity such as brisk walking can be an important tool in the fight against depression, according to a study in Scotland.
It has already been proven that intensive exercise alleviates the symptoms of depression, but it was not clear whether less demanding activities have a similar effect, "BBC" reports.
Therefore, a group of Scottish scientists from the University of Stirling processed data from earlier eight studies, which included a total of 341 people suffering from depression, and found that walking is just as effective in the fight against depression as other more intense activities.
According to their research, published in the journal "Mental Health and Physical Activity", walking has a powerful effect on depression.
