The attack on the retired general and national hero Jov Kapičić was condemned by representatives of the Dukljan Academy of Sciences and the Association of Associations of NOR Fighters and Anti-Fascists of Montenegro.
Former prominent military and political leader, national hero, Tito's diplomat, is a precious witness ("without a knot in his tongue") about everything he saw and experienced in his long life.
DANU representatives believe that there is no good enough reason for the "heinous violence" that happened in Belgrade.
"This convinced Montenegrin patriot, an old internationalist, after leaving the emergency medical facility, assessed that this unknown hooligan - "attacker from behind", is an extended hand of those who persistently attack him for three things: as a Montenegrin, as the alleged founder of Goli Otok and as the organizer of the arrest of Draža Mihailović. All that, true or false, does not justify this heinous violence in Belgrade, in a city that Jovo Kapičić remembered from his student days as a rallying cry for freedom, the action of progressive youth and justice-loving social ideals," reads the DANU statement.
DANU: A prominent contemporary
According to DANU, General Kapičić, who is one of the most prominent of our contemporaries, was raised on the libertarian tradition and historical achievements of the capital Cetinje.
"He is known to the public as a tireless supporter for the restoration of independent Montenegro, for the realization of a modern multinational Montenegrin state, in which Montenegrins, as the majority nation, will be able to develop and enrich their national culture, "by which we are, as well as by our libertarianism , and were known in the world until now. "Kapičić deserved to be given the deserved moral support, especially on this occasion, to which we also add our wish that the old general recovers health as soon as possible," the announcement stated.
For years I feared that something like this could happen to my father. That's what I told him, but I hoped that no one would harm him at this old age.
Dragan Kapičić, the son of a retired general of the JNA and the former warden of the Goli Otok camp, told Belgrade's "Blic" yesterday that his father has been exposed to inconveniences, insults and threats for years.
"For years I feared that something like this could happen to my father. That's what I told him, but I hoped that no one would harm him at this old age. They intercepted him on the street, threw and insulted him. They called him on the phone, asked: "When are you going to die?" Dragan claimed, stating that he did not expect that his father would be physically attacked.
