Accumulated fat on the stomach favors the proliferation of cancer cells, according to scientists from the University of Chicago.
Belly fat is especially dangerous for women because it favors the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells.
Unfortunately, this "silent killer" is discovered very late in most cases in women. The research of American scientists was published by the journal Nature Medicine.
"This adipose tissue, which is very energy-rich in dense lipids, acts as a springboard for the spread of deadly ovarian cancer," said gynecologist Professor Ernst Lengiel.
Namely, fatty tissue feeds cancer cells and enables them to multiply rapidly. Scientists believe that this explains the formation of cancer in other parts of the body where there is fat, such as the breast.
Ovarian cancer is a disease that can be successfully treated if detected in time, but very often this is not the case, so it is one of the most common causes of death in women.
