Pet owners are in better health and are happier than people who don't have pets, according to the results of an American study. A group of psychologists from the University of St. Louis and Miami concluded that pets have a very important social role, that they can enable their owners to create greater self-esteem and a better state of health, French media reported.
The physical aspect of the positive influence of pets includes playing with them, as well as running, walking... which maintains a certain physical activity that can even prevent obesity.
The research was conducted in three phases - during the first, the participants, 217 of them, filled out questionnaires in order to assess the elements that distinguish pet owners from non-pet owners.
During the second, 56 dog owners were questioned, which were found to encourage self-confidence, belonging and to give meaning to existence. In the third phase, the research showed that the pet helps its owner in moments when he feels rejected, it was published in the scientific journal - JPP (Journal of Personality and Psychology).
