Because they go to the doctor more regularly, take care of their health, and are more durable. Every year, almost 100.000 men die before the age of 75 compared to 60.000 women, it was announced today on the "Men's Health" portal.
According to the latest research, a total of 22 per cent of men in England and Wales die before the age of 65 compared to 13 per cent of women, and 42 per cent die before 75 compared to 26 per cent of women. Also, research has shown that 76 percent of people who commit suicide are men.
"Compared to women, men go to the doctor less often," said Tom Spektor, a professor at the London College of Genetic Epidemiology. "There is a big biological difference between the two sexes, so there is no reason why men's and women's bodies should behave the same way," he added. Spektor also explained how women are more durable in life than men.
"They're generally smaller and shorter than men, and if you take in fewer energy sources, you'll live longer," Spektor explained. "We can see that in the example of animals, earthworms live four times longer, if they don't eat or have sex," he added. Spektor also concluded that men in their 50s or 60s are no longer "usable", while women are, because they become grandmothers who help with children.
"Thousands of years of evolution will pass until the modern man changes his way of life," he concluded. Statistics from 2009, however, are more favorable for men and show that men born in 2006 will live 3,6 years longer and women 1,9 years longer compared to those born in 1990.
