Scientists from Louisiana conducted research on two groups of overweight men and women. Both groups were on a low-calorie diet. One group was supposed to drink two glasses of water before eating.
After 12 weeks, the group that drank water lost an average of eight kilograms, and the other six kilograms. Those who continued the habit over the next year lost an extra kilogram on average.
"I would never promote this way of losing weight, because this practice slows down the emptying of the stomach. This is just an additional strategy that could help people manage their hunger, or appetite," says scientist Brenda Davey, professor at Virginia Tech University, who was the leader of the research.
