Just half an hour of walking a day can reduce the risk of colon cancer. At the same time, if daily exercises are added to it, the risk of heart disease, diabetes and various types of cancer is reduced, and regular physical activity can even be beneficial even after the cancer has already been diagnosed.
These are the results of the latest research by dr Kathleen Wolin from the Washington School of Medicine.
A team of American scientists followed and compared the data of the research, which included more than 150 men and women, over several decades.
They found that those who exercised consistently for at least ten years had the lowest risk of colon cancer.
Dr. Wolin states that the best results were those people who during that period engaged in some kind of physical exercises. He points out that there is no need for great physical exertion and hours of exercise. According to her, half an hour of walking is enough to reduce the risk of numerous diseases.
"People often wonder around the new year if exercise will really help them stay healthy or if it's already too late. However, it's never too late to start exercising, but it's also never too early to start regular activity. That's the message we hope people will remember from this research," Wolin said.
