Attack on the US Embassy near Katnić

The Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica submitted the case regarding the bomb attack, and then the suicide of Dalibor Jauković (43), to the Special State Prosecutor's Office, the two prosecutor's offices told "Vijesta".

"Regarding the issues related to the event at the US Embassy in Podgorica, I inform you that the Special State Prosecutor's Office, by the Higher State Prosecutor's Office, has submitted a case for evaluation, in order to determine whether the actions of a person contain elements of criminal offenses for which authorized to act by the Special State Prosecutor's Office", the Special Prosecutor's Office told "News".

The High Prosecutor's Office said that, "after certain measures and actions were implemented", they submitted the case to the jurisdiction of the Special State Prosecutor's Office.

"Vijesti" has unofficially learned that the prosecutor's office is particularly focused on determining whether Jauković had helpers or instigators.

The investigation so far by the Montenegrin prosecutor's office and the police has not shown that Jauković attacked the American embassy with a bomb on February 22 as a member of an organization formed for that purpose, the prosecutor's office and the security services unofficially told "Vijesti" last week.

The same sources said that it can be said with great certainty that Jauković acted alone, but that the ongoing investigation will show whether someone encouraged him to commit such an act and helped him in any way.

Jauković threw an M75 bomb into the embassy yard from a distance of five to six meters. The bomb did not injure any of the employees of the embassy, ​​nor did it cause major damage in the yard. After that, he crossed the street and in the field across from the embassy, ​​he set off another bomb and killed himself.

Jauković, a participant in the war in Kosovo in 1999, threw a bomb at the US embassy in Podgorica exactly ten years after the US embassy in Belgrade was set on fire in 2008, immediately after the declaration of Kosovo's independence, and then took his own life with another bomb.

By searching the apartment where Jauković lived with his mother and brother, the police found his letter in which, among other things, he apologized to everyone who respects him.

In that letter, which is now the subject of expert examination, he also wrote that he would not be a "fraudster".

The entire letter is written in a confused manner and in it he writes that he opposes Montenegro's entry into NATO, how bitter he is about it and that his attack on the embassy will be his response to the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999.

Baković wrongly informed the public about the finding of Jauković's DNA

Jauković's identity was confirmed by his brother, a few hours after he committed suicide, and not by DNA analysis, as the head of the criminal police, Enis Baković, announced at the press conference on the same day as the attack.

The interlocutors of "Vijesti" who deal with this type of analysis claim that the time it takes to do a DNA test is at least 48 hours.

"And that only if the sample for analysis is taken from body fluids, which is not done at the Montenegrin Forensic Center," said the interlocutor of "Vijesti".

"News" from the police did not answer the questions, which were sent to them the day after the attack, when the samples needed for the DNA analysis of the deceased Jauković were submitted to the Forensic Center, who sent the request for the DNA analysis and by whose order it was done, when it was completed and when the finding is handed over to the client.

The Higher State Prosecutor's Office, to the same questions, answered "that, in the interest of the investigation, I cannot provide more details about the actions taken during the course of the proceedings so far."

However, unofficial interlocutors of "Vijesti", both from the prosecution and from the police, said that Baković misinformed the public because the DNA test of Janković had not been done, and at the time when Baković announced it, around 15 p.m., the apartment where Jauković lived was not was not even searched.
