Activists of the civil sector demanded changes to the Criminal Code, because, as they said from the protest in front of the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, lawsuits with a mild criminal policy affect the increased number of criminal offenses.
The protest, which was not attended by a large number of citizens, was organized by members of the network of non-governmental organizations Open Platform.
"I believe that this protest should be organized in front of the Supreme Court building, because they - the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court - influenced the increase in the number of criminal offenses with their mild criminal policy and sent the message that the perpetrators of the most serious crimes can be found after only a few years at liberty and continue his criminal life", said the director of NGO 4Life Saša Mijović.
He added that personal responsibility should be demanded from those who are responsible for the safety of all citizens.
"We will amend the Criminal Code of Montenegro to increase the minimum statutory prison sentence for all counts of the criminal offense of illegal possession of weapons and explosive substances. That is, to make the minimum sentence two years, because now it is from three months to three years." , he said.
He pointed out that he will seek maximum sentences for criminal acts of murder, attempted murder, planting bombs... and confrontations with criminal gangs where the safety of other, innocent citizens, especially children, is threatened in public places.
Maja Raičeivić from the Center for Women's Rights also asked for harsher punishments for those crimes.
She added that despite the terrible things that are happening, "we do not see the appropriate reaction of the competent institutions".
"Which are there first and foremost to protect citizens. So the question arises who is more protected here - citizens or criminals," she said.
At the protest, in front of the Montenegrin Women's Lobby, Aida Petrović spoke, explaining that she was also at the rally as a citizen of Montenegro, because the safety of the citizens was seriously compromised even before the last double murder.
"With the latest criminal events, murders, bombings, the security of citizens has been extremely impaired and the situation has really culminated. Today, we, as citizens, do not feel safe in Montenegro, because we know that murders and criminal confrontations have happened all over Montenegro. Gore. At that time, in my opinion, there was no timely and adequate reaction to prevent or prevent what happened a few days ago in the strict center of Podgorica, when we had a fourth innocent victim," she said.
