Experts have calculated how many calories the average person could burn if they stood just a little more during the day.
In a large analysis, experts took into account data from 46 studies and based on them calculated that the average man burns 0,19 calories during one minute of standing, compared to sitting.
Average-weight women, on the other hand, can burn 0,1 calories per additional minute of standing. This means that a 65-kilogram person would burn an additional 54 calories if they stood instead of sitting for six hours. On an annual basis, this means as much as 2,5 kilograms lost.
The data of 1.184 people were taken into account.
Something similar was calculated by other scientists, who concluded that a person of average weight spends about 9 calories during an hour of standing, and the effect is greater if it is not just standing, but standing with frequent changes of posture and movement in place, writes Index.hr.
Even if all this did not encourage you to lose weight by standing, let it at least encourage you to stand more and sit less - if nothing else, for your health, reports B92.
