Despite the red weather alert in Cetinje, the theater was filled to capacity for the premiere of "God of Massacre" on Friday evening. Four young actors in a piece directed by the Macedonian director Siniša Evtimov managed to make the audience laugh, who, observing an everyday situation, realized that they were watching themselves.
Surrounding the scene from all four sides, we have an exclusive view and a clear insight into the fact that we have stopped telling the truth, that we are very angry and duplicitous, that the parents, who met to resolve the children's quarrel, are much bigger children than those who got into a fight in the park, that in their aggression they are just a reflection of themselves.
Observing two married couples who, from eye-popping tolerance and pacifism, come to outbursts full of bigotry, we look at ourselves in a slightly distorted mirror in which humor fills the gap between the two extremes in behavior and makes the problems of the declaratively moderate Western society much clearer.
"It's a sad story, although it's funny when you look at it from the side. Laughing, you recognize sadness, when you realize that, it makes you a better person. I believe in change. I hope we see ourselves as we are, we should urgently look in the mirror, take a look at our dental hygiene, check if we are throwing garbage in the right place. Small things move the world and change. The actors I spent a month and a half with are brilliant, they are young, but we managed to do the adaptation and reach the audience. It is a responsibility to come to a country that is not yours. You have to leave a product that will last, a project that will be loved by the audience. It was an honor to work at the Royal Theatre," said director Siniša Evtimov after the premiere.
Actors Omar Bajramspahić, Jelena Đukić, Marija Labudović and Vule Marković brought the audience to their feet by performing the well-known drama of Jasmine Reza. They believe that the text, although written in France, is also valid for our climate, especially when it comes to young generations of parents and their relationship with their own children.
Although it is a foreign text, the Montenegrin society can easily join in this questioning of the mentality of a European citizen whose dialogue, marked by a broad smile, begins at the same time with the qualification that the boy was "armed" with a stick, and then with the statement that he "mutilated" his friend . The actors were able to build a performance that requires accuracy and enormous concentration thanks to the space and trust given to them by the director.
"This was a very intimate process with four people, with a director who had a specific relationship with us from the very beginning. For us, this is not just a premiere, this is much more personal to us. We had a wonderful director who takes care of the actor and leaves everything to the actor. The text is also excellent. I am happy that I got this role because this is a character that kept me wanting to play him for years. Although the text was written for another place and time - in France, and then the film was made in America, I think that it is very local, that it also speaks to our society, about some new generations of parents, which are very interesting and I think it should that people must see this piece", said Jelena Đukić.
"Tonight we came full steam ahead and I think it showed. It is a demanding performance, but when you have a synchronized team, then nothing is difficult", said Vule Marković.
