Swedish and Finnish scientists claim that type XNUMX diabetes should be classified into four different diseases.
The result of this new approach, they say, would be a much more precise determination of diabetes groups, each genetically different, which would help in better therapy.
According to them, type two diabetes has two serious and two mild categories in which it occurs. The first of these four categories would be severe insulin deficiency, which has been shown to include people with high blood sugar, low insulin production, and moderate insulin resistance.
The second type is severe insulin-resistant diabetes, mostly associated with obesity. The third is a milder type of obesity-related diabetes, which includes obese patients, but it is a less serious condition and includes people who develop the disease at a relatively young age.
The last group would represent mild diabetes caused by aging, which is the largest number of patients. The scientists made these conclusions based on a study of 15.000 patients in Finland and Sweden, reports Novosti.
