There are few sports in which one trophy is more valuable than the title of Olympic champion, such as, for example, the case with the football World Cup. One of the most demanding competitions in world sports - the New Year's Tour "Four Jumps" in ski jumping - belongs to such trophies without any doubt.
The fact that in the history of the competition since 1953, only two jumpers have managed to celebrate on all four jumps in the New Year's tour, is the reason for the incredible euphoria in Poland, which is celebrating the historic success of Kamil Stoh.
The great Pole (the adjective Flying is reserved for Stoh's predecessor, Adam Mališ), repeated the success of the German Sven Hanavald from the 2001/2002 season. year, which brought him the title of the best athlete in the world!
Stoch gave Poland their third triumph on the New Year's Tour, as they defended their title, with Malis celebrating in the season before Hanawald's historic campaign.
"The Pole flew to the career slam", the headline in the Austrian "Tiroler Tageszeitung", best describes Stoch's achievement. In tennis terms, his success is like consecutively winning all four Grand Slams in tennis, which only Rod Lajver and Novak Djokovic managed!
Stoh, with two Olympic and world golds each, and a triumph on the "Four Ski Jumps" tour, is now chasing his second victory in the World Cup, as he won the first in the 2013/2014 season. This season, Stoh is the leader in that competition with 723 points.
"I need to rest first, that's my first thought. It was extremely tiring, but I persevered thanks to the support of the fans, family, wife and of course the Polish national team and sponsors," commented the now legendary jumper.
Unlike the previous title in the New Year's Tour, when he celebrated only in Bischofshofen, while he was second in Oberstdorf and Garmisch and only fourth in Innsbruck, Stoh welcomed the 66th edition with maximum preparation.
"Stoch, when he is in a good mood, uses his strengths perfectly. He, like his performance at the Olympic Games in Sochi and Bischofshofen, was late with the reflection, but again he jumped the farthest. When his rivals analyze it, they are simply shocked," he explained the secret of success. his successor, the "flying Pole" Adam Mališ.
This year's tour was marked by the worst placement in the history of Austrian jumpers, since the best placed was Mihael Hejbek in 14th place.
And of course, Hanavald showed the character of a top athlete, who was among the first to congratulate Kamil Stoh.
