“Why do we write? We can summarize the answer to that question in two reasons: to express ourselves or to communicate with readers. Awards like this help us communicate with readers who buy and read our books. They are the ones who decide that one book is better than another. Every time I receive an award I am asked if the awards matter. I say they are, they make us happy, they give us an incentive to continue working and writing," said Orhan Pamuk opening the 10th Winter Book Fair organized by the publishing house "Nova knjiga" after he was presented with the "Literary Flame" award.
During the opening ceremony, the director and editor-in-chief of the publishing house, Predrag Uljarević, presented Pamuk with the award, which was founded by this publishing house together with another world writer and Nobel laureate, Mario Vargas Ljos.
Professor Doctor Sonja Tomović Šundić explained the jury's decision regarding the awarding of the award.
"Choosing from a number of creators, the jury decided on Orhan Pamuk. Both the author and his work are filled with those hot flames in which artistic creation and society, history and imagination, purify each other. He gives voice to what can be heard and what cannot be spoken "With the contrast of white, red and black in the color of its titles, it seems to shape the banner of a poetics," pointed out Tomović Šundić.
After the opening ceremony of the 10th Winter Book Fair in the "Mall of Montenegro" shopping center, where the fair will be located until December 31, the famous Montenegrin guitar duo Darko Nikčević and Srđan Bulatović performed.
After the musical part of the program, the editor of "New Book" Jelena Krsmanović had a conversation with the Turkish Nobel laureate about his creativity, life, and motives.
When asked about an event like this salon organized by "Nova knjiga", Pamuk pointed out that all events like this exist to popularize and nurture reading, books and writing, and awards such as the "Literary Flame" serve as a "filter for readers" to indicated which works should be paid attention to.
Pamuk also pointed out that writing is becoming increasingly popular in the world. From America, China, Asia, India, everyone wants to write and everyone sends texts to publishers, and therefore more is read, and even if they don't read paper forms but digital ones. The Nobel laureate concluded that nowadays people read more than ever.
