To solve problems in the stomach and digestive system, you don't need to take pills. Turn to your rack of spices and teas and get rid of pain in a natural way, writes Dnevnik.hr.
1. Turmeric (Curcuma longa)
Best for: stomach pains, irritable bowel syndrome and depression
It is a spice that colors any dish in a beautiful yellow color. The main ingredient is curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory properties. In one study, curcumin was shown to relieve stomach pain as well as ibuprofen.
Another study showed that it reduced the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and inflammation by 50 percent, and it was also effective in suppressing depression.
How to take it: Add half a teaspoon of this spice to your food every day, especially with dishes containing fat and black pepper because these ingredients promote its absorption
Be careful: If you suffer from diabetes, talk to your doctor before adding turmeric to your diet. In combination with diabetes medication, you can lower your sugar to very low levels.
2. Black pepper (Piper nigrum)
Best for: stomach aches, digestive problems and even arthritis
Black pepper is a natural remedy that has been used in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. It contains piperine, which is considered an analgesic, and increases the absorption of nutrients in the body.
How to take it: Add freshly ground black pepper to your lunch or dinner to make sure you get the maximum amount of beneficial substances from it.
Be careful: Piperine can slow down the breakdown of some medications for heart disease and epilepsy problems, so be sure to talk to your doctor if you plan to take large amounts of black pepper.
3. Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Best for: gastritis and relaxation of spasms in the intestines.
An article published in the Journal of Gastroenterology in 2014 showed that peppermint is an excellent remedy for spasms and intestinal pain because it contains menthol and menthone, which are naturally relaxing.
How to take it: Pour one teaspoon of dried mint in leaves with 200 milliliters of hot water. Let it stand for 10 minutes, strain the liquid and drink this tea three times a day between meals.
Be careful: Peppermint can worsen gallstones and the symptoms of people suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), so talk to your doctor if you have such complaints, reports Radio Sarajevo.
