Montenegrin writer Milorad Popović won the 2017 Njegoš Award for the novel "Faceless Man".

As announced by the Ministry of Culture, the decision on the winner of the Njegoš Award was made by the International Jury composed of prominent writers from seven countries of the region.

The jury discussed 21 proposals nominated by selectors from BiH, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro.

"Then, in the context of evaluating aesthetic achievements, he made a shortlist of 11 candidates for the award of this prestigious international award: Enes Karić, Damir Ovčina, Ivan Teofilov, Vlada Urošević, Goran Vojnović, Jani Virk, Borislav Radović, Svetislav Basara, Slobodan Šnajder, Sreten Perović and Milorad Popović," the statement said.

As stated, in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, the Jury reduced the established list of 11 candidates by public vote to a shortlist, which included Vlada Urošević, Slobodan Šnajder and Milorad Popović.

"After that, by secret vote, with a majority of six out of seven votes, he decided to award the Njegoš Award to Milorad Popović from Cetinje," the announcement states.
