Director Igor Vuk Torbica is the winner of this year's "City Theater" award for theatrical contribution. This was the decision of an expert jury whose members are academician Dževad Karahasan, writer, Jelena Lužina, theater expert and Željko Hubač, playwright.
"After a comprehensive, argumentative and, above all, collegial discussion focused on several successful plays, which, with their diverse authorship, were undoubtedly marked by several eminent theater professionals, the jury unanimously decided to award the Grad Teatar Award for 2017 and 2018 to director Igor Vuk Torbica for his exceptionally thoughtful , a thorough and unconventional reading and staging of Lorca's Blood Wedding," the decision states.
The play was realized in the production of the City Theater, with the co-production cooperation of the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad. It premiered on the stage Between Three Churches on August 9, 2018.
"Blood weddings confirmed the fundamental determinants on which Igor Vuk Torbica builds and develops his own poetics, i.e. a peculiar director's handwriting that, for years, has affirmed him as one of the most intriguing and persistent theater actors (theaters, says Steria) in the region," stated the jury.
The "Grad Teatar" award will be awarded at the ceremonial session on the occasion of the Budva Municipality Day, on November 22.
