High fructose corn syrup isn't talked about much, and maybe it should be, given that it's in so many foods. Experts claim that if we were to remove this ingredient from our diet, the metabolism would become faster in just eight days!
This syrup is used as a sugar substitute in many sodas, juices, baked goods, ready meals and other processed foods. It reaches our intestines and bloodstream more slowly than regular sugar, and experts say that it is by no means good for the line or for health.
During the research, 40 children completely eliminated sugar from their diet.
In just over a week, the results showed that the little ones had lower cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure and reduced liver fat.
High fructose corn syrup, experts say, is found in about 75 percent of ready-made foods and beverages because it is cheaper and sweeter than sugar. The body is not able to digest this syrup, but turns it into fat, so it is clear that pounds and fat are lost when this ingredient is removed from the diet.
Professor Jean-Marc Schwartz and his colleagues from the University of California say that eliminating fructose from the diet can help fight obesity, fatty liver disease and diabetes.
Compared to glucose, of which about 20 percent is retained in the liver and 80 percent is broken down in the rest of the body, 90 percent of fructose is retained in the liver. Fructose is also converted to fat 18,9 times faster than glucose.
Professor Schwartz adds that numerous studies have shown that a diet rich in simple sugars increases liver fat and the risk of various diseases.
"By eliminating sugar from the diet of obese children, after just nine days there was less liver fat and the metabolism was faster," he says.
Schwartz says that this change in diet would speed up the metabolism, and the sudden hunger pangs that fructose causes would disappear, reports Mondo.
