When people eat vegetables, broccoli should be their first choice. It is claimed by dr. Rangan Chaterje who was a guest on the BBC show "Doctor in the House" stating that broccoli is a life preserver.
This green vegetable encourages the development of good intestinal bacteria that boost the immune system and have a positive effect on colon health. Previous research has shown that good bacteria in the intestines also influence a healthy weight and reduce the risk of mental disorders, writes the Daily Mail.
By passing through the small intestine, broccoli helps balance the immune system. After that, the fibers that have not been digested go to the large intestine, where most of the intestinal bacteria are, and they attach to the fibers and thus create short chains of fatty acids that are extremely important for the health of the large intestine.
Broccoli is also good for heart health because the vitamin K found in it affects the work of the heart, i.e. the flow of oxygen throughout the body. Experts advise that before consumption, cut broccoli into small pieces and leave it to stand for up to an hour and a half, because this increases the level of sulforaphane, an ingredient that has anti-cancer effects and lowers blood sugar levels, reports Večernji.
