Regular consumption of fish could alleviate health problems in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, according to the latest scientific research.
In patients who consume fish at least twice a week, less joint swelling and tenderness was recorded, compared to patients who rarely ate this food, or did not consume it at all.
The results also showed that the more the subjects ate fish, the lower the level of disease activity.
176 people participated in the study, and the authors studied the impact of boiled, stewed and baked fish on the health of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Fried fish was not taken into account, considering that it contains less omega-3 fatty acids, which have an anti-inflammatory effect.
Previous studies have shown that the consumption of supplements based on fish oil has a positive effect on this disease.
The research was published in the magazine "Arthritis Care & Research".
