Production company A24 and Canadian director Matt Johnson ("BlackBerry") have joined forces on a feature film that explores the life of the late professional chef, author, humanitarian and travel show host Anthony BourdainNow, new details have been revealed about the cast of the film titled "Tony".
As confirmed by Variety, Dominic Sessa ("The Holdovers") will play the young Bourdain in the biopic set in 1976. It was also revealed that the Oscar-nominated actor has been cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role. Antonio Banderas („Pain & Glory“).
Sesa will portray Bourdain during his formative and life-changing years working summers at local seafood restaurants and living in Provincetown, Massachusetts. This period is detailed in the brutally honest autobiographical novel, “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures from the Culinary Underground,” where Bourdain offers readers a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of chefs and kitchen teams, exposing the shady practices of less-than-ethical restaurants, as well as valuable advice for anyone looking to try their hand at the industry.
In his youth, Bourdain had problems with drug addiction, such as cocaine and heroin (he was obsessed with rock stars and prone to vices such as Lou Reed i Iggy Pop), but he later recovered and became famous almost overnight, after writing an article for The New Yorker in 1999, which earned him a book deal and then a series of television shows such as "A Cook's Tour", "No Reservations", "The Layover" and his latest, Emmy-winning series on CNN, "Parts Unknown".
Sadly, Bourdain tragically ended his life in Strasbourg in 2018, where he was filming an episode of "Parts Unknown" with his longtime friend and chef. Erik RipertHe often used his fame to highlight injustices and document various places – from popular tourist destinations to those that were out of reach for most travelers.
The film "Tony" is directed by Johnson from a screenplay All Bartlsa i Second Time, and filming begins next month.
