Police in Bar and Ulcinj implemented increased controls in Ulcinj in order to find persons of security interest who are wanted, and if any police officer exceeded his authority, measures and actions will be taken against him to sanction such behavior, the Police Administration announced.
US citizens, originally from Ulcinj, announced that they will file criminal charges against the police, who, according to their claims, behaved inappropriately during the raids in Ulcinj bars and restaurants.
"Officials of the Bar Security Center and the Ulcinj Security Department last night, in order to find persons wanted by the police for criminal offenses and to control the so-called persons of security interest, in Ulcinj, carried out an increased control of persons in catering facilities. After finding and bringing those three persons who are otherwise persons of security interest and who were directly connected to the case of the attack on the police officer OB Ulcinj JM, their acquaintances and relatives gathered in front of OB Ulcinj and a number The aforementioned activities of the police officers followed last Sunday's physical attack on a police officer from the OB Ulcinj, as well as after an attempt at extortion to the detriment of a citizen of Ulcinj by members of the OKG from Bar, committed on the territory of the OB Ulcinj, who were immediately identified after the event, and One of them was arrested, while three persons are being sought, and according to our knowledge, there is a possibility that these persons are hiding in the Ulcinj area," the police announced.
Prelja Škrelja, a resident of Štoj, said that members of the Intervention Platoon carried out a raid last night in Štoj in an inappropriate manner.
"Inappropriate, because the pre-season is in full swing and because we have a lot of tourists, especially our people who live in the USA. One of them who just said that he didn't understand what it was about because he only speaks English, the policemen slapped him." said Skrelja.
He said that several US citizens who are originally from Štoj, and who were present last night during the raids, will file criminal charges tomorrow for such behavior.
"If they continue like this, we can say goodbye to the season," Škrelja said.
Several hundred citizens of Ulcinj, led by political and municipal leaders, gathered on Saturday evening in front of the Police Station building to protest the raid of the Intervention Unit from Bar on Ulcinj premises.
Portal Ul-info reports that Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mehmed Zenka, Mayor of Ulcinj Nazif Cungu and MPs Genci Nimanbegu and Ljuiđ Škrelja immediately came to the police building and demanded an explanation for the action.
Zenka and Cungu told the citizens that by today all cases of inappropriate intervention against citizens should be documented in order for the lawyer to file a lawsuit, and that the evidence be forwarded to other competent authorities.
MP Dritan Abazović said that the action of the Intervention Unit was unnecessary, judging that it was a demonstration of force.
"The subject of our activities were exclusively persons for whom there is evidence that they engage in illegal social activities or that they are close to persons of security interest. Also, these activities are carried out in order to prevent crime during the summer tourist season, especially in coastal cities where In the summer months, a larger number of people stay. We note that police officers at all locations where controls were carried out, in addition to the usual practice, stated the reasons for these activities to the citizens present. We will not comment on political statements, because controls of persons of security interest and crime prevention have nothing to do with politics," the statement said. is from the police.
They reminded the citizens that they must have an identity card, that is, a valid document with a photo, because it is a legal obligation of every person.
"Police officers of CB Bar and OB Ulcinj will also in the coming period carry out activities to preserve public order and peace through intensive and targeted controls of persons of security interest and those close to them, and in accordance with their legal powers," the statement concludes.
URA: The police, as during the sanctions, owe the citizens an apology
The civil movement URA, as it was announced, condemns the action of the Intervention Unit of the Police Administration, which "was carried out in an extremely inappropriate manner, which does not at all befit a country that aspires to reach the highest standards and become an important tourist destination".
"Everyone who happened to be in the busiest places in Ulcinj last night had the opportunity to see scenes from the time of the sanctions. People remained in disbelief, because they did not believe that such behavior by police authorities still existed, and especially because there was no valid reason for it. Carrying out such an action, at the beginning of the tourist season and in the period of the highest concentration of people in the city, is a demonstration of power and arrogance, in a city that rightfully bears the epithet - the most peaceful in Montenegro," pointed out the Ulcinj committee of the URA movement.
URA points out that "the excuses of the Police Administration, which explained the raids as an attack on an official, which happened a few days ago - and which we also strongly condemn, confirm that it was a witch hunt, because citizens and tourists must not suffer terror due to irresponsibility of any individual".
"That's why we call on the Police Administration, to start by apologizing to the citizens of Ulcinj, who experienced a great and unexpected inconvenience, and the citizens to file a legal complaint against all responsible persons for last night's mistreatment. In the end, such events do not suit anyone, neither the citizens nor tourists and least of all the police. That's why we hope that such scenes will never happen again, and that the vampire of brutality from the nineties will finally leave the Police Directorate", concluded the Citizens' Movement URA.
