Boxing club Podgorica will be the representative of Montenegro in the Regional League from the next season, it was agreed at the meeting of the leaders of the Montenegrin Boxing Association and the leaders of the regional competition.

The president of the Boxing Association, Blažo Saranović, said that participation in the Regional League opened a new page in Montenegrin boxing.

"We had meetings with guests from Serbia and Croatia, with the delegation of the Regional League, which showed interest in the participation of our clubs in that competition. We have agreed on the details and I am happy to announce that BK Podgorica will participate in the regional competition from next year," he said. Šaranović at the press conference.

He pointed out that the leaders of the league completely agree that BK Podgorica meets all the conditions for participation in the regional competition.

"This does not limit our other clubs from joining the Regional League in the coming period. We in the Association are ready to support any club that shows interest," Saranović said.

The president of the Regional Boxing League, Jurica Runtić, said that the expansion to Montenegro is just another step in the massification of that competition.

"The league started with six clubs, and this season there are seven. The half-season is over, we played six rounds, and we continue in September and the championship lasts until December. From February of next year, we will hopefully have ten clubs, because in the next month we expect the inclusion and representative of Slovenia", said Runtić.

He said that he is glad that Montenegro will have a representative in the Regional League starting next season.

"This will give another, higher level to our league, which aims to bring to the surface, through mass, one of the boxers from the countries of the region who will win a medal at the European or World Championships, maybe even at the Olympic Games. That would be a big deal for us. success", said Runtić.

The president of BK Podgorica, Dragan Đuričković, said that the Regional League will be an opportunity for Montenegrin boxers to progress.

"We have participated in similar leagues before, but it turned out that there was a problem of how our young boxers could continue their careers. They boxed until they were 19 or 20 years old, and then they stopped because of a lack of matches and more money. The league gives them that opportunity that was missing - they will have matches, they will be competitive, they will be sought after among clubs if they show themselves," said Đuričković.

The General Secretary of the Regional Boxing League, Mujo Bajrović, said that he is optimistic that the competition will succeed, stating that he was not so at the beginning.

"When I watched two or three rounds, several fights and got into the story with the people who are in the organization, I saw that there is enormous energy for the league to succeed. I was never a world champion, but deep down I dreamed of being one. I know for sure that every boxer dreams of it, wants it, and cannot achieve it without matches. The league enables boys from the countries of the region of the former Yugoslavia to have quality matches and for their careers to last. And when they last, that means they can also win medals," said Bajrović.

The new season in which BK Podgorica will participate as a representative of Montenegro starts in February 2018.
