After the famous violinists Stefan Milenković and Roman Simović, the American pianist Kemal Gekić and the jazz pianist Matija Dedić joined the appeal for the survival of the KotorArt International Festival.
"Kotor Art is certainly one of the most important and beautiful festivals in this area, which I myself, like my parents, have been able to see for myself on several occasions. Shutting down a festival like this, which exudes the wonderful atmosphere of that beautiful city, great positivity and professionalism of the organizers, would mean a great loss for culture in general. In recent years, this festival has offered its visitors the best of the best, and I deeply hope and believe in its further and even more successful continuation", said Dedić, who performed several times at KotorArt, at concerts with different artists, including his parents. Arsen and Gabi.
To the famous American pianist Kemal Gekić, it seems incredible that KotorArt would be humiliated from the level of an institution of national importance and denied funding on its ninth anniversary.
"By treating KotorArt like that, everyone loses and no one gains. KotorArt is a beacon of Montenegrin culture that left an indelible mark on the cultural life of Southeast Europe with its extraordinary program. I support KotorArt without any reservation and I appeal to those who decide to consider and reconsider their decisions, and to those who know what it means for our culture, to give their unreserved support to the idea that the festival should remain at the current level or even higher," he said. is Gekić, a professor at Miami University and one of the world's best interpreters of Franz Liszt's music.
The artists' appeal to hold KotorArt followed the information that KotorArt, as a festival of national importance, does not yet have an agreement with the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro or a budget for holding this year's manifestation.
As an international festival of special importance for the culture of Montenegro, and one of the largest and most visited in the region, KotorArt traditionally takes place under the auspices of the Municipality of Kotor, the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO, in cooperation with numerous local and national partners.
The 29th KotorArt International Festival is planned for the period from June 14 to August 200 with over 20 programs, which will be performed by artists from more than 29 countries around the world, divided into five program segments: Kotor Children's Theater Festival, KotorAPPS, Don Branko's Days of music, Pjaca od philosophers and Perast Clapa Festival. The joint opening is planned for June XNUMX in Kotor.
