President of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) and official of the Democratic Front (DF) Milan Knežević has submitted to the Constitutional Court a supplement to the constitutional appeal against the decision of the Parliament of Montenegro to revoke immunity, the DNP announced.

"After the illegal revocation of the immunity of the leaders of the DF, Milan Knežević and Andrija Mandić, the investigation of the Special State Prosecutor's Office was officially expanded. Bearing in mind that the procedure of revocation of immunity is illegal, for which a constitutional appeal was filed, as well as a certain number of criminal charges for abuse of official position by those who participated in this process, the order to expand the investigation that the Chief Special Prosecutor Milivoje Katnić passed must also be considered illegal. This is especially so if it is taken into account that according to the CPC, in the order to conduct the investigation, evidence from which reasonable suspicion arises must be indicated defendants, and that in relation to the leaders of the DF, the Prosecution has so far not presented any concrete evidence on the basis of which, in accordance with the law, the investigation would be expanded," the DNP press release states.

The DNP said that due to numerous illegalities and irregularities, it was requested that this process be brought into the legal system with a constitutional appeal, with full respect for the right to a fair trial and trial within a reasonable time.

"The Constitutional Court must act as soon as possible, since it can only, with its decision, stop unconstitutional and illegal actions in relation to the applicants of the constitutional appeal. This is especially important because if further proceedings take place without the prior action of the Constitutional Court, with illegalities which follow this case, then it may happen that by some subsequent action everything will be canceled and returned to the beginning," the DNP statement added.

The party claims that it is once again drawing the public's attention to the fact that this case is a staged affair aimed at preventing the change of government.

"It is about the political process and the persecution of the DF as the main political opponent of the criminal regime. This is precisely why, with various illegalities and disregard of procedures, they want to implement a fake court process that is not based on the existence of any evidence," the statement concludes.

On February 15, members of the authorities lifted the immunity of Mandić and Knežević, and all those present voted in favor.

Members of the DF are suspected of having committed the criminal acts of creating a criminal organization and preparing acts against the constitutional order.
