At the photo exhibition "To sam ja", which was opened on Wednesday evening in the "Josip Bepo Benković" Gallery, 12 Herzegovinian authors with different artistic sensibilities, interests and preoccupations presented themselves.

"Knowing the technical side of the camera is not enough for artistic photography. It is only the basis, because what makes art photography whole is visual culture, or better, explained photographer Jan Šmok. "'The painter stands before an empty surface, the photographer stands before the universe'. What is a common component to all photographers is the factor of human presence as well as the desire for research", said art historian Kristina Milatović, opening the exhibition.

"Herceg Novi is known as a city of painters and painting, and in those circumstances, photography was neglected, so the exhibition is a good opportunity to get to know the work of people for whom photography is a professional commitment or just a passion," said one of the authors, Vanja Berberović Šuberić.

"I try to capture the spontaneous moment, pure human emotions and reactions without rigging or pretense. I believe that this is the only way to be a true photographic narrator of reality", Zorana Mandić is convinced.

“Today, everyone is doing photography. It's such a time that if you haven't recorded something, you haven't experienced it, you haven't recorded it, you haven't even seen it. Today's photography, if we were to be honest, is a kind of kitsch, because the essence of kitsch is second-hand experience. But whether the photo will really act as kitsch or whether the photographer will make a 'breakthrough' to turn the genesis of something that is by definition kitsch into an artistic expression, that is already a matter of talent, knowledge and eye", points out Voislav Bulatović.

Until the end of April, visitors will be able to see the works of Vanja Berberović-Šuberić, Jefta Bjelica, Danilo Brajović, Voislav Bulatović, Branka Čelanović-Ilijanić, Miodrag Gab Golubin, Jason Gold, Zorana Mandić, Igor Mareš, Miloš Samardžić, Tomislav Stanić and Dejan Stojanović.
