After 18 years spent in the World Cup, Ivica Kostelić said goodbye to competitive skiing today.
After the combination in Wengen, in which he won 22nd place, the 37-year-old Croatian said that it was the last race in his career.
Kostelić won four Olympic silver medals, three of them combined, in Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. In addition, he was second in the Olympic slalom in 2010.
He was the winner of the World Cup in 2011.
In total, he achieved 26 triumphs in the World Cup.
In today's combination (downhill and one slalom run), by the way, Swiss skier Nils Hinterman won.
Hinterman was 23rd after the slalom, and he reached the first victory podium in the World Cup in a time of two minutes, 26 seconds and 58 hundredths of a second.
Frenchman Maxen Musato was also a surprise, finishing second with a gap of 26 hundredths of a second, while Austrian Frederik Berthold was third with a time 35 hundredths slower than the winner.
The combination was held in bad weather conditions, and the skiers' work was hampered by heavy snow and low visibility on the track.
The World Cup will continue tomorrow with the downhill in Wengen, where the slalom will be raced on Sunday.
