According to a report by French media outlet Origami, the team working on the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown video game has been disbanded, despite seemingly positive reports from developers about their experience while working on the game.
In a video released by Origami regarding the team's disbandment, it is stated that the fate of the game was practically decided just weeks after its release. The core development team reportedly tried to secure a sequel or at least multiple expansions in addition to the single “Mask of Darkness” expansion, but Ubisoft reportedly needed more resources on other projects that (they believed) had better sales potential. According to the report, The Lost Crown failed to meet Ubisoft's sales expectations, and executives expressed concern that a sequel could threaten the first installment's long-term sales results.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, a studio that employs hundreds of people and was last known for working on the endlessly delayed Beyond Good & Evil 2. Asked for comment, senior producer Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown , Abdelhak Elgues, sent the following statement to IGN:
“I am extremely proud of the work and passion of our team at Ubisoft Montpellier, who have created a game that has resonated with both players and critics, and I am confident in its long-term success. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its post-launch plan, with three free content updates and one DLC released in September," he noted, adding that they are now focused on making the game accessible to more people. player.
“It recently launched on Steam and will be available on Mac by this winter. Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have moved on to other projects that will utilize their expertise. We know players love this brand, and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future,” added Elgues.
