The development team of the popular video game Valorant is offering players up to $100.000 if they discover bugs or cheats in the game.
Valorant is a tactical first-person shooter originally released in 2020. At the same time, Riot Games introduced the new anti-cheat software Vanguard. Since then, they run a program called Bug Bounty, which rewards players for reporting bugs, cheats, and hacks.
"We invite researchers who successfully identify new and particularly serious security issues to join Riot's private bug bounty program on the HackerOne platform, where we reward discoverers with cash prizes," the team promised, adding that players and the community of researchers help quickly solve security issues .
Players can earn between $250 and $100.000 for reporting bugs, including internet security issues, game exploits and other security threats.
"If you can help us protect our players and their data by responsibly identifying new security issues that we need to solve, you are great and we want to reward you," the Valorant development team said, adding that bugs that meet the requirements for the reward will be rewarded based on severity.
"If Riot has to implement code changes to fix a security issue, it's highly likely that bug qualifies for a reward," the official website says. To claim the prize, the player needs to send an e-mail to bugbounty@riotgames.com.
Since the Bug Bounty program launched in 2018, Riot has paid out over $2,3 million, with nearly $40.000 of that in the last three months. According to the official website, the average prize is $750.
Over the weekend, Riot confirmed a new set of rules for Valorant players, including a clause in the terms of service that allows the company to ban players for their actions outside of the game.
"For example, if a creator uses offensive language against an opposing player or teammate during a stream, but not in-game via chat or voice communication, we can still issue a penalty as if the behavior occurred in-game," they note.
