When the first Heroes of Might & Magic was released in 1995, no one could have predicted that it would become one of the most influential turn-based strategy series of all time. It was developed by New World Computing, led by the legendary John Van Caneghem, and from the first moment players recognized something special, a perfect blend of exploration, tactics and fantasy.
The first part was simple, but different. The maps were small, the animations modest, but the world had a soul. And then in 1999, Heroes III came along, the title that would take the throne. It was the game that taught us planning, patience and rivalry, whether we played for hours alone or shared a keyboard with friends. Many of us still remember the sounds of battle, the orchestral themes and the feeling of conquering an entire map for the first time.
30 years later!
This fall, the series enters its third decade. Ubisoft has announced a big celebration that will take place on October 9, 2025, and all fans will be able to watch it live on Twitch and YouTube.
What awaits us?
- Conversations with veterans who shaped the series.
- Heroes Orchestra - an orchestra that brings back unforgettable musical themes from the games. The audience will even have the opportunity to choose the songs that will be performed.
- Competitions and giveaways, including a major Heroes III tournament on the H3.gg platform.
- Fan creations - art, cosplay and video works from the community will be part of the official program.
A New Future - Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era
The celebration won't just be a nostalgic trip. Ubisoft and Unfrozen studio are working on a brand new game, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era.
It will be released in early access in the summer of 2025 and will take us back to the continent of Enroth, in the region of Jadame. At the start, we will have six factions: Temple, Necropolis, Sylvan, Dungeon, Hive and Schism. There are also multiplayer modes, co-op, as well as a map editor, which is exactly what the community has always asked for.
The famous Paul Romero returns for the music, and the Heroes Orchestra will ensure that the game's sound is just as epic as it was 20+ years ago.
Heroes was never just another game in the collection. For many of us, it was the moment when we said “just one more move,” and stayed up late into the night. It was a reason for socializing, rivalries with friends, and stories that we still remember today.
Thirty years later, that same magic is still there. That's why on October 9th, when the orchestra plays the first notes, it will be more than a celebration of a single dance, it will be a reminder of part of our growing up together.
