Gorillaz will relaunch their virtual creative space. The iconic venue “Kong Studios” will allow fans to explore the rooms and spaces of Gorillaz characters Murdoc, Noodle and Russell, now as an interactive online video game.
They decided to make this move on the occasion of the band's 25th anniversary, which they marked with a series of special concerts at London's Copper Box Arena, during which they performed selected albums and also gave fans the opportunity to visit the "House Of Kong" exhibition.
The exhibition offered a behind-the-scenes look at the band's virtual headquarters and charted their creative journey since their debut single "Tomorrow Comes Today" in 2000. "House Of Kong" is not a retrospective, but an audiovisual installation that looks back to show the way forward. This is no ordinary exhibition, because in the world of Gorillaz, nothing is as it seems," said the creative director Stephen Gallagher.
The original Kong Studios launched in 1998, and fans were able to explore, discover unreleased demos and hidden Easter Eggs, until the site was shut down in 2008. Fans on Reddit were thrilled with the return.
