Epic Games launched a major Star Wars update to Fortnite on May 1st, bringing three new experiences, and player reactions are already divided.
These are the Galactic Siege, Escape Vader, and Droid Tycoon modes, which are available through Fortnite Creative and use official Star Wars tools and characters.
While Epic and Lucasfilm Games are pitching this collaboration as a new way for players to create their own Star Wars content, the community already has mixed opinions about the quality.
Escape Vader is a horror co-op mode in which up to four players try to escape a spaceship while being pursued by Darth Vader, and it is this mode that the audience has marked as the most interesting. Players describe it as a tense and fun concept, although it has some technical problems and is short-lived.
Galactic Siege brings 10 out of 10 PvP combat and has divided fans the most. Some players compare it to "the Battlefront experience in Fortnite", with comments that the idea is good, but that the balance and execution are uneven and sometimes chaotic. Criticisms are mainly related to the weaker combat feel, problems with spawn points and the general impression that it is an "early version" of a larger concept.
The third mode, Droid Tycoon It focuses on building and controlling droids, and to many it seems more relaxed, but also simpler, so some players see it as lighter content compared to the other two games.
Reactions on social media and forums range from excitement at the idea of Fortnite becoming a platform for small Star Wars games, to criticism that the mods are technically unfinished and of uneven quality. Some players believe the concept has potential and could develop into something bigger, while others say it all feels more like a test than a final product.
Yet, despite mixed reviews, Star Wars content has once again attracted a huge number of players to Fortnite, showing that collaboration continues to have a strong effect on the community.
