The most played horror game is getting a film adaptation

"Dead by Daylight", also known as "the most played horror game in history", will be getting a film adaptation.

Originally released in 2016, "Dead by Daylight" is a hugely popular multiplayer online survival horror game that has collaborated with a number of well-known franchises over the years, including "Stranger Things," "Saw," "Alien," as well as "Resident Evil" and "Silent Hill." Even Iron Maiden and Slipknot have become part of the game's universe.

To mark the tenth anniversary of "Dead by Daylight", development studio Behaviour Interactive organized a major presentation to show fans what awaits them in the future.

Over the next twelve months, the game will see a series of limited-time modes, new survivor characters, as well as some familiar murderous faces, including Art the Clown from the "Terrifier" franchise and Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" series.

Behaviour Interactive CEO Remi Racine said that Dead by Daylight has become "the most played horror game in history," with more than 70 million players playing it over the past decade.

“I’m amazed at how much the game continues to reach new heights,” he said, adding that revenue has grown by more than 50 percent in the past year.

"2025 was the most successful year for 'Dead by Daylight' to date. We've had over six million new players join us and achieved record results," he said.

Behaviour also confirmed that a film based on the game is still in development. The project was first announced back in 2023, and James Wan, creator of the Saw franchise, is attached to produce.

It has now been confirmed that the film will be directed by Thordur Palsson, known for his work on "The Valhalla Murders" and "The Damned."

The screenplay is written by Alexandra Aja and David Leslie, who worked on the films "Aquaman" and "The Conjuring".
