The title "Dragon Age: Origins" could get a new way to play on PC in 2027, thanks to a project by a group of independent developers working on reconstructing the game's code and adapting it to modern computers.

The project has currently reached 60 percent of the code refactoring, a developer using the username Shot_Let_1344 posted on Reddit.

The goal is to rebuild the game's code to enable features that the original version does not have today, but also to fix issues that make it difficult to run on newer hardware.

Among the planned features are support for 64-bit systems, bug fixes, controller support, and cooperative campaign play. The project is based on working with the Eclipse Engine, the technology on which "Dragon Age: Origins" was built, but which is now outdated and with which few developers have experience.

The project's authors expect that decompilation could reach 90 percent in about a year. After that, the project could be released, which would mean that the new "Dragon Age: Origins" gameplay could be available in 2027.

The project is closed source, and the developers state that this approach was chosen to preserve the original idea and prevent the inclusion of mods or programs that would change it.

The PC version of "Dragon Age: Origins" has been plagued with issues for years. The game has been plagued by memory leaks and resource management issues on modern hardware, and official support for the game is no longer at a level that would allow them to be systematically addressed.

"Dragon Age: Origins" was released in 2009 and is considered one of the most important RPGs of its time. BioWare followed it up with "Dragon Age 2", "Dragon Age: Inquisition" and "Dragon Age: The Veilguard", while "Origins" has not yet been officially remastered.

Because of the outdated Eclipse Engine, a possible remaster of "Dragon Age: Origins" would be a demanding project. Therefore, the code reconstruction currently being done by independent developers could serve as the basis for modernizing the game, although there is currently no official confirmation that BioWare or EA would support this project.
