Antonio Banderas will play the tragically killed Italian designer Gianni Versace, one of the greatest fashion icons of all time, in a film that will premiere next year.
According to foreign media, the film will be directed by Billy August, and filming will begin in December, "Dazeddigital" reports.
The first shots will fall in Miami, where Versace was killed by Andrew Coonan at the end of the last century, more precisely in 1997. It is interesting that the film is being shot without the approval of the family and the Versace fashion house.
"The company neither authorized nor participated in the realization of the film, the filming of which is planned, and everything that will be presented is the result of fiction", announced the representatives of "Versaće".
For this role, Banderas spent time at Central Saint Martins, a school of design and art in London.
"In the film, we will present Versace's intimacy and show some of his lesser-known sides," said August.
For 2017, August announces another biographical film, about the composer Antonio Vivaldi.
Đani Versaće was born in 1947, and as an eighteen-year-old he started working in his mother's tailoring salon. He presented his first independent fashion collection in 1978. A year later, he opened the first boutique under his name in Milan.
He was murdered in 1997 on the doorstep of his home in Miami.
