Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock, recently finished filming Central Intelligence (in theaters June 17), in which he plays Bob Stone, a CIA agent who enlists his only schoolmate who didn't bully him (Kevin Hart) to help him. in a new mission.
Although the opening story sounds like any other action film that the 44-year-old has made, the plot encompasses much more, such as elementary school bullies and how to stand up to them, writes uproxx.com. Just before the interview, a scene was filmed on the set where Bob, although the biggest person in the room, is just a scared and insecure teenager who receives insults from his peers.
Does that scene represent your character as we meet him?
Exactly. When the audience gets to know him, he will be very shy. He is the victim of a bully, who drops out of school after that incident. However, it will lead him to change his life completely. He now works as a CIA agent and is a very effective operative. Just like in real life, many times when we face our biggest fears sometimes things go well and sometimes they don't.
We're not used to seeing you in these kinds of roles, it's actually very strange.
It's been a long time since I shot a comedy, because I was waiting for the right opportunity, that is, a script that is comedic but contains action. When they gave me this script I was delighted. This character was not written for me, they actually considered other actors.
When I met the director (Rowson Marshall Tuber), we knew that we should shoot something different, that my character should be something that I have not done before. Then we talked on the phone and I said that I had a crazy idea for a co-star: "His name is not on the list, but it would be really funny with him - Kevin Hart". Kevin and I have known each other for many years and now we are finally working together.
So Kevin owes the role to you?
e. It was always a tempting idea to work with someone like Kevin, especially because of the visual image of me and him together. I saw a couple of pictures of us backstage at the MTV Awards and when I saw us I thought it looked like a movie poster. I've always enjoyed his comedy and have watched everything he's done.
Kevin is one of the greatest comedians, but he hasn't had much success outside of America like you. What reactions do you expect to the film, when it comes to countries where Kevin is still unknown?
From a business point of view, he has worked a little outside of America and he is aware of that. But he had the movie “Wedding Ringer” with which he introduced himself to the world. But everything takes time, and he has already created a lot here. Even without that, I think this film has great global potential.
Do you see yourself again in this or a similar character?
I would love to do this again. The most important thing for me is the success of the film and whether I and my partners will be liked by the audience. I think there is a possibility to create a franchise, but it all depends on our fans and their reaction.
If that part is fulfilled, I would like to repeat this character, because it is a rarity. He's like Bill Murray in "What About Bob?" or Tom Hanks in the movie "Big". It's rare when you're an adult, but you have fun and can be childish and at the same time successful at what you do.
