Last year, Turkey earned 250 million dollars from the sale of television series, most of which are soap operas.
The country started selling series abroad in 2001, and since then the sector has been on a steady rise, reports SEEbiz.
Turkish series are shown in 70 countries of the world, and the annual earnings last year compared to 2014 increased by 50 million dollars.
According to the director of one of the production companies, Besir Tatli, about 70 new series are filmed in Turkey every year.
"Half of the filmed series are successful in Turkey, while only ten or 15 percent of them are sold outside Turkey," said Tatli.
It is estimated that Turkish series are watched by around 400 million viewers worldwide, and production companies are looking for new markets. Currently, the focus is on South America, India, China, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The average price per episode just a few years ago ranged from $30 to $50. Today, foreign distributors pay between 500 and 200 thousand dollars for one episode.
